Opening of the exhibition "Women Madeiran Artists in dialogue with Sonia Delaunay"

The Galeria Marca de Água, opend on December 10, Thursday, at 6 pm, a new large exhibition that will occupy the three floors of the gallery. The group exhibition entitled “Women Madeiran Artists in Dialogue with Sonia Delaunay” brings together about thirty works by a dozen Madeiran visual artists who will be in dialogue with a guest work, an unprecedented painting by visual artist Sonia Delaunay, one of the most respected 20th century world artists, a precursor of geometric abstractionism.



The exhibition already announced, is dedicated to the interpretation and mediation of universes in the feminine, in a historical and social dimension, deconstructing historiographical narratives and establishing relationships between works by Madeiran authors, put into "dialogue" with an international reference work, which will be highlighted The exhibition brings together several domains, namely, large-format painting, drawing, installation and photography The Galeria Marca de Água thus reveals the complete panel with the plastic artists that will be represented in this exhibition: Dina Pimenta, Filipa Venâncio, Guareta Coromoto , Lina Pestana, Luísa Spínola, Rafaela Luís, Rita de Andrade, Sara Santos, Sonia Delaunay, Teresa Gonçalves Lobo and Teresa Jardim.




Women Madeiran Artists

About the artists:


Dina Pimenta has a degree in painting from the Higher Institute of Plastic Arts in Madeira. In addition to visual artist, he also held a teaching career at Escola Secundária Francisco Franco. It has numerous individual and group exhibitions. It was distinguished with a merit medal awarded by the Regional Government of Madeira in 1985 and by the European Union in 1998.


Filipa Venâncio has a degree in Plastic Arts / Painting from the Higher Institute of Plastic Arts in Madeira. He exhibits regularly since 1987, having participated in numerous group exhibitions. Individual exhibitions include those held at the Museu de Arte Sacra do Funchal, at the Order of Architects of Madeira, at the Galeria dos Prazeres, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Funchal and at Casa das Mudas.


Guareta Coromoto has a degree in painting from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts and attended the National Society of Fine Arts, in Lisbon. He has held over a hundred individual and group exhibitions since 1979, having participated in several international biennials. He exhibited at the Casa das Mudas Arts Center, at the Gallery of the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture, at the Electricity Museum, among several other spaces in the Region. In 2013 she was awarded by the Academy of Letters, Arts and Sciences of Brazil with the Medal of Cultural Merit of Brazil.


Lina Pestana, photographer, teacher, writer and trainer. Degree in Educational Sciences, from the University of Aveiro. He completed Photography courses at the University of Aveiro, in the area of ​​Fine Arts and at the Instituto Superior de Artes de Pistoia, in Italy. He participated in numerous Photography Contests having won several prizes. From 2000 to 2003, he obtained a Master's degree, with a master's degree entitled Espaço Lusófono, covering the areas of politics, economics and culture, by the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technology of Lisbon. Photographer at the QUERCUS Association, in Aveiro, between 1998 and 2005. She is a specialist in the area of ​​Special Education, in the areas of Cognitive and Motor Domain, teaching in this area since then, at the Regional Secretariat of Education.


Luísa Spínola has a degree in Fine Arts / Painting, a postgraduate degree in Management and a Master in Art and Heritage in Contemporary. It has a vast curriculum with numerous collective and individual exhibitions in the areas of drawing, illustration, painting and installation. Coordinator of Atelier Gatafunhos. He collaborated with Porta 33, in educational services and within the scope of the “Ilhéstico” project. He had his most recent solo exhibition at the Museu Henrique e Francisco Franco.


Rafaela Luís

Student at Francisco Franco High School, awarded with the National Grand Prix of Drawing.


Rita de Andrade

Degree in Cultural Communication at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon. Master in Studies

Curatorials in Contemporary Art, by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. He attended the Degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon. He worked at EGEAC, under the tutelage of the Lisbon City Council and later in Barcelona at the company BLOCK - Serveis Culturals. In Portugal, at the Better World - Rock in Rio Lisboa communication office. He joined the European Commission's Presidency Office in Brussels in 2016. He attended several workshops in the jewelery area, a privileged area where he has been developing his work. Studied jewelery at AR: CO Lisboa. Among the numerous exhibitions in which he participated, the most notable were those organized at the Instituto Luso Francófono, Instituto Camões, Fundação Oriente, Cuban Art Factory - in Havana, among several other museums and galleries.


Sara Santos is an Architect.
